Warning...long post!

We had Grandma & Grandpa Sadler with us this weekend, which worked out well because I've had a pretty nasty headcold, making my brain feel like it is too big for my head--not good.
Grandma had the idea that she was going to cook with the girls. Most mothers are reading this and thinking that 18 months is much too young to cook with kids, but she managed to pull it off. They made cookies, spelled their names in the dough and loved the activity as well as the dress up outfits that accompanied the activity. Personally, I think Grandma went a little overboard, but isn't that what Grandma's are for??
Step 1: Find a kid-friendly surface they can reach--teach them to push and roll the dough

Step 2: Assist them in using the cookie-cutter letters

Step 3: Let them sprinkle

Step 4: Ignore the cries as they go into the oven (they thought at this point they were gone for good)

Step 5: Look really cute playing in the mess while the cookies bake

Step 6: Admire your work

I'd be lying to the blogosphere if I said this week was all sugar and sprinkles. I had a scare with Addy on Monday. While playing at a local bookstore and buying a gift for a friend, she tripped over her own two feet and fell on the corner of a table. Thinking not much of it as she is a big clutz, I calmed her down, made my purchases and began to get their coats on. As this was happening, she began to wail and I saw the eye beginning to swell. We drove the 5 miles home and in that time, her eye swelled shut and she wailed and wailed. Thankfully, it was President's day and my mother-in-law was off work. I made a frantic call to the pediatrician that went something like this...

"Okay, so she took a fall, is she bleeding?"

"No, but blood is pooling underneath the skin and this bubble looks ready to pop."

"Does it look like broken blood vessels?"

"Yes."

"Did she go unconscious?"

"No"

"Did she seize?"

"No"

"Did she vomit?"

"No"

"Does she have leakage from her ears, nose or eyes."
"No-but you are really freaking me out here!"

"Ma'am, these are standard questions with a head injury, would you feel better if you brought her in?"

"YES!"

Grandma Jody came to watch Lilly and I took Addy in. They said she was lucky, she could have fractured the bone above the eye or worse landed on the eye and had serious issues, but this was just a 'surface wound'. I've said before that she is my fearless daughter and I have a feeling I have a lot more injuries like this one ahead of us, but I swear I aged 5 years in an hour. Here's a picture of the wound, but honestly it doesn't do it justice. She looked like she'd been in a bar fight most of the week.

My Addy, still all-smiles a few hours after the incident when some of the swelling had gone down.

A Week in Pictures....

"Mom, seriously this spaghetti stuff is AMAZING--can we have this everynight?"
(PS. I'm still scrubbing my walls behind her high chair!)

"I'd prefer not to get messy--you never know who might stop by."

(Lilly--my daughter who if I allowed her to would survive on fruit and Ritz crackers)

"You think we'd get kicked out if we took a little swim?"

(The Three Musketeers (Mallory, Lilly & Addy) at the Children's Museum)

"Girls, let me go first, this could get dangerous."

(JD, looking out for his leading ladies..."

We are as crazy as ever! New favorite words: Addy's is "No" and sometimes she even shakes her finger at me as she says it...delightful. Lilly's is "Buh-bye". She says this to books when she's done, food as she throws it on the floor, everyone she meets, wherever we are--how am I going to teach her that not everyone is her friend!?

And just in case you needed a little belly laugh in your day...

18 months already?

Here we are--18 months old and thinking Spring! The photographer told me I was her first "Spring session" as these were taken last week during a snowstorm, but we are ready! True to form, Lilly was my cheese, Addy wanted nothing to do with the photographer and neither sat still very long (but they never do!). My goal going into a session is to get a decent shot of them together since that rarely happens at home. The one on the stool is my favorite. The chucks are from our friends Lauren & Chad --we love them! I won't have stats until after our doctor's appointment next week.

Sunday Ramblings...

In the spirit of a REALLY good nap day-I thought I'd catch up blogging and share a bit....

It was a busy and fun week around here. On Wednesday evening, I braved this...
to see this...

All in all, a decent event. I thought she'd be imparting parenting wisdom, but she really just promoted her book and told the Jon & Kate Plus 8 story, so if you watch the show you already know it. After her talk, I visited with a twin mom from the local twin group and checked out the wine tasting booth (This is all at the Indianapolis Home Show). This alone, made the night out worth it.

A little background about this video. We've consistently gotten to 1 nap a day since the x-mas holidays. The length of the nap varies and I try and get them to 1 o'clock in the afternoon before naps. Most days that works. Yesterday was Daddy's day, he watched them all morning while I went into work. The video was taking around lunchtime....

Besides sleeping in our highchairs, we've also figured out that books with paper pages are fun to read, not just rip apart--here are my little bookworms.

Lastly, random thought...I came across this website a few weeks back, they do a "green" bargain every day. I have no affiliation to it, just a cool thought...you can check it out for yourself: http://greenbabybargains.blogspot.com/

Snowman Challenge/Look what we learned

No Addy, Lilly and I are not taking credit for this, it is in our neighborhood and I've been rolling down the windows to show them everytime we pass by....isn't it incredible?
I'm also going to start doing some posts called "Look what we learned" because I feel like they are learning SO fast, I can't even keep up. Each day is something new....

We learned that the rocking horse sitting in the corner of our playroom for a year now, can be a good time. They can now climb up and onto it themselves and rock it.

We are learning body parts--Head, Nose, Ear, Teeth, Eye and Toes, just to name a few!

We learned having a twin sister can be fun--we chase and wrestle and even tickle each other! Thankfully it isn't ALL about fighting over toys...

We learned to sit on big girl chairs and stay there all the way through breakfast!

We learned if we stand at the window pounding for long enough, Grandpa Ian will take us on a walk, even if it is cold out--SUCKER! (WE LOVE YOU GRANDPA!)
