School Days

A & L have loved their school programs this year. They are enrolled 2 mornings a week and always come home telling tales of the adventures they had that day. It's nice too, because they are the oldest kids in one of the programs and the youngest in the other, so they've learned to socialize on both ends of the spectrum. Their teachers are always complimentary about their manners, their intellect, their ability to play with other kids and look out for each other. I often wish I could observe them in this atmosphere as they sound like much better behaved kids there than they are at home! Their school pictures from last year can be seen here, and the dramatically different pictures from this year are below:

What a difference a year makes!

Lilly--always ready to cheese the camera!

Addy-she plays shy, but isn't at all!

One of their teachers snapped this shot for me--sisterly love at it's best...

Addy, at the head of the class, LOVES to paint and always has so much to tell me about on days when they do this.

Lilly in the middle of the table here, next to Addy, is a bit more skeptical about getting dirty with paints, but always loves to show off a finished creation.

School's out....for summer....

Addy is in front of Ms. Jackie and Lilly is next to Ms. Candace

Addy & Lilly had their last day of "school" the other day. They've been in this 1/2 day program on Fridays all year. It's sometimes rough to drop them off, Lilly usually in tears, but they assure me she doesn't cry long and they've made lots of friends! They got their reports cards and each of them got "fully developed" marks on the following skills:
  • Can follow simple directions=
  • Take part in musical activities
  • Enjoy books
  • Can find hidden objects
  • Can sort toys
  • Can point to objects & pictures

About Addy, they said, "Addy is special because she is fond of taking toys into the corner play 'pit' and playing independently. She also likes to look at books in that spot. She hugs all the baby dolls and will put them in the toy refrigerator. Her favorite activity is going on a buggy ride. She will run to it whenever we mention it."

About Lilly, they said, "Lilly is special because she is very active--she entertains herself and everyone else. She loves to ride the rocking horse and wants to be sung to while on it. She loves playing with little manipulative toys--the farm and Noah's Ark. Her vocabulary is really starting to grow."

Not that this isn't stuff we already knew, but it's nice to be reassured....

What a week! First day of school?

Well, today was Addy & Lilly's first day in the "Mom's Day out Program" down the street. I was worried because it would mean skipping morning naps and some adjustment being away from mom for 4 hours. The verdict is in and they did great. Both scoring 10's on their "report card." This is my attempt at finding some work/home balance and I'm really hoping we don't see repercussions of adjusting their schedules this weekend and it goes off well next week. I'm enjoying my new job, but nap times come and go quickly! That is the main reason I don't blog as much as I used to. That and the girls are so busy. I've caught Lilly in the toilet, Addy climbing the stairs, eating off the pantry floor, etc. Their favorite activity right now is letting them play with their walkers out in the driveway. I have to check my OCD tendencies in the house and let them have fun. We go straight into the bathtub to scrub the dirt...a video is below, but it's hard to catch on video as they are usually going in separate directions. They love the park and pictures from the swings are below. I also put up a cute picture of my dad and Lilly at the zoo last week that I think is adorable. The other video is my laughing machine. It doesn't take much to get these girls laughing these days. I'm still trying to catch them tickling one another on video. It has happened a couple of times when I'm not in the room, but I can't get to my camera quickly enough. That's it for now, back to work while they are sleeping.

"Mom--did you you know we get a snack, lunch and no naps in this place--I think it's heaven!" (Thanks for the birthday outfits Kristina--aren't they cute?)

"I can reach you if I really try..."

"Weeeeeeeeeee"-Lilly

"Mom, check it out, I have more hair than grandpa!"
